Flag Education Program
The Exchange Club of Saginaw has developed a new program for area schools. This program is geared toward 4th grade elementary students and teaches them about the flag of the United States of America.
Veterans from V.F.W. post 1566 helped exchange members Sue Burk (pictured below as Betsy Ross) and Buck Rutenbar conduct the program.
The program was a huge success with the students at Merrill Elementary School who learned about:
- The history of the flag
- Proper display and handling of the flag
- Respect for the flag
- Folding the flag
- The meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance
The students were given a small flag and a brochure with information about the flag and its proper care to take home.
The program is available upon request to area schools.
